BUDGETPLANTS

In 1885 Henry Bennett arrived in Dunedin from Ireland and began a plant nursery. He purchased several acres in North East Valley and grew potatoes, vegetables and other exotic plants. He supplied local customers and other nurseries throughout New Zealand. In the 1940s the family twice won the Loder Cup which is one of New Zealand’s oldest conservation awards. It acknowledges individuals and groups who make an outstanding contribution to conserving native plants of New Zealand. Four generations later, Henry's great great grandson, Brian continues this tradition by growing mainly NZ natives and supplying customers all over New Zealand.
